What is it?
Bring your own device (BYOD) (also called bring your own technology (BYOT), bring your own phone (BYOP), and bring your own PC (BYOPC)) is used to describe the use of personally owned devices in education settings
Why do it?
Schools don't have to fork out the cash for new equipment.
Since student's own the device they bring, they are already acquainted with the technology.
Fewer text books in the backpack.
Anytime / anywhere learning - information is always available for your students.
Electronic assessment in class with instant feedback.
Enhanced student engagement.

How do I do it?
Set your guidelines and rules. Be sure they coincide with the school’s expectations for the use of electronic devices.
Do not allow students to use devices to record, transmit, or post photos or videos. You must protect the rights of the other students in your class.
Create a plan for students without devices. I put students into groups so that each group has atleast one device. They then utilize the app or complete the activity collaboratively.
Allow students to use their devices to communicate, blog, take notes, collaborate, plan, organize, manage time, create, research, gamify, complete formative assessment, receive instant feedback, turn in assignments, and so much more. Visit the Tools for BYOD section of this site for more ideas.
